Like a Bad Penny

I am beginning to think our neighbor, the most current one to leave (who left in July or August of 2006, not Pamela), is very much like a bad penny. We keep hearing about her. Usually, it is junk mail with her address and name. Friday night, it was a person! That's right a person! While I was making dinner, the doorbell rang. Luckily, I was at a point where I could stop cooking. It took me a few seconds to realize that it was our doorbell that rang (it is sick and kind of goes ding! buzzzzz). So, I went downstairs to the, hardly ever used front door, and looked out the window.

A small Asian woman is walking away from the door. She stopped, turned around and asked where the lady is. I told her I don't know and that she moved a couple months ago. Really, because she owes me money. I told her they mentioned moving to London. To which the woman says:
She owes me money for furniture that she didn't pay me for, I have a bill of sale, and it was a lot of money. She hasn't paid me for seven months. My lawyer tried to send a letter, but it was sent back to office.
I told this woman I couldn't help her, I don't know where in London she moved to. The woman doubts she moved to London at all and says maybe she is in Milwaukee. I told her good luck. She apologized for interrupting me, and went on her way.

I wish people wouldn't assume that just because I live in a building with someone that I know exactly what their schedule is and am best buddies with them. Honestly, all we share is a common hallway to the front door and the laundry area in the basement. Yes, I can probably tell you my husband's schedule depending on if it got changed that day or not, but that is different. We live together! I cannot tell you any neighbor's schedule. Especially when they do not live there anymore.

I know I promised pictures for the last post about the zoo, but currently Paul's computer and mine are not talking. Guess which one has picture storage capacity? That's right. His. So, eventually, I will edit that post and put up pictures that were promised.

Bare Naked Ladies

This post is a few days late, but I thought I 'd write it anyway :). On Friday, September 30th, my Dad and I went to see the Bare Naked Ladies at the Brookfield Zoo near Chicago! It was a special event hosted by a local radio station (101.9) called "Lions, Tigers, and Bare Naked Ladies." The event was free and sponsored by Thomas' English Muffins, Saturn, and Best Buy. The zoo opened at 5:30 am. Dad and I were at the zoo by 5:30 (We left Barrington around 5). The zoo opened at 5:30 that morning, but they must have started letting people in earlier than that. The ladies keeping track of the number of people admitted said they had counted 358 adults, 12 kids, and five babies as we passed the entrance gate. Dad and I were some of the last people to get seats under the tent. People still poured in after us.

A few comments on the weather. On Thursday night the temperature had dropped like a stone. We were under frost advisories for Friday morning. Yes, I actually broke out my winter coat for this event and was very glad I did! The radio show hosts commented that it was just above freezing that morning, and so cold that the polar bears were refusing to come out! There were also comments on how no one seemed to know where their gloves were. By the time the sun came up it was only 47.

The Bare Naked Ladies showed up around 8. They stopped specifically in Chicago on their way to a concert in Kansas. One of the radio hosts was shocked that one of the groupies was wearing shorts. There were many jokes about Canadians...Which the band took in good stride (and even added to some). One of the band mates has a Canadian wife and claimed he was half-Canadian because of that! They sang five songs, and the radio station has been playing some of the live cuts lately from the concert especially "Easy". I have to say like the way they sound live better than the sound on the recorded albums. Paul listened to the live broadcast on the radio, in case anyone is wondering (he had to work that morning).

After the morning show was over, you were free to wander the zoo. Dad and I started to look for animals. Most of them really didn't want to come out into the open (cold) air. The first animal we saw out in the air was a bear. Contrary to the show host's comments, the polar bears were outside. We also caught the African wild dogs sleeping, a rhino eating, and the wolves outside. (pictures to be inserted soon, they are stuck on the camera). We spent a lot of time looking at the leopards, lion, and snow leopards.

The clouded leopard was out and walking around in it's exhibit in the Fragile Rainforest. I always try to look for it, but most times, it alludes me. Once or twice I have caught it sleeping curled up in a round bed like a house cat. Today it was actually wandering its exhibit! There weren't many people around; it was very quiet. I think this contributed to the cat being active, plus it was probably breakfast time. It actually looked up at me! It has very beautiful golden yellow eyes. :) I wasn't able to get a picture (and I really tried!) because the cat was moving around so quickly.

We were also lucky enough to catch feeding time for the penguins (in their indoor exhibit).

All in all, Dad and I had a good time at the concert and the zoo. The morning actually turned out to be quite pleasant, but on the cold side. The sun was out, and there was a slight breeze. I was really glad to get to go with him :) Dad and I left the zoo around noon and were back in Barrington around one.
